Is your wardrobe bulging at the seams? Has it expanded over the festive period or just full of all the wrong things? Being honest, how much of your wardrobe have you not worn in years? If you are answering yes to these questions then you are in need of a good wardrobe diet! Like the real thing there are tons of diets around, especially at this time of year, so just like it is for the body it’s important to try and find the one that works best for you.
The 5:2 Diet
Two distinct wardrobes – one for work, one for play?
- make them both work harder
- try mixing them up a bit – take a fresh look and see what’s interchangeable
- bear this in mind when buying new items – see how you can incorporate them into both aspects of your life
- over time you can ditch the pieces that just don’t work any more
- there will naturally be whole outfits that only work in one environment or another
The Dukan Diet
Your whole wardrobe centres round a staple – e.g. jeans
- try a variety of cuts and colours to suit your body shape and proportions
- try all your tops on with them – don’t get stuck in the rut of wearing the same pair with the same top all the time
- Accessories are key!!! Mix it up from stillies to riding boots, cross-body bags to sparkly clutches, pearls to heavy metal
Cleanse Diet
Just too much going on in there? This one requires some time (as well as space) to be put aside.
- actually try everything on instead of picking items up, looking at them and putting them back in exactly the same place as before
- is it the right colour, does it fit your style personality as well as your body proportions and lifestyle?
- it isn’t just about what isn’t right – you might discover a long forgotten hidden gem!
- Be ruthless with what you just know isn’t right and won’t be worn (ever/again)
- Dot be too hard on yourself though – we al have ‘sentimental’ items – that’s fine – just don’t have too many!
- Make sure you have enough ‘capsule’ pieces to tie everything together so that there are more outfit combinations
- Don’t forget to include your accessories (shoes, handbags, belts, scarves, jewellery, etc)
