TIPS AND TRICKS FOR IMPACTFUL AUTUMN STYLE UPDATES

The transition from season to season can prove a challenge for many wardrobes. Here are a few tips and tricks to see you create a stylish impact as you hurtle through a Scottish autumn…

The days are getting shorter and the daylight has a different hue to it. When the sun shines, it’s still warm and yet by dusk, the cold can bite. Being prepared for a daily commute, business travel or weekend away can prove a challenge. Autumn light also opens up a multitude of opportunities to add impact by updating a few aspects of your look. Here are my top tips to get you inspired:

Accessories

Colour is the most impactful aspect of your style. It’s subtle and yet the point of difference between people noting you are wearing a ‘nice top’ or saying ‘wow you look great’! Autumn is a most wonderful time of year to swiftly add depth and colour to your wardrobe through the power of well-chosen accessories. Scarves for both men and women, smart or casual, are a real winner. A variety of fabric types for women, in particular, can enable indoor and outdoor looks. Getting to grips with different ways to tie a scarf to suit your face shape and neck length, etc. can also make a significant difference. You can explore a small selection for inspiration here, or if you would like a short consultation on scarves and jewellery for autumn get in touch. This can be provided online from £30 or in person in my central Edinburgh studio. See full services list.

Bags and briefcases can also make or break your look. Notably, summer styles need to be wiped down and packed away until spring. Plan an evening or some weekend time to take a look at the bags you have been using recently, check out what you have forgotten about and reacquaint yourself. If you would like an online consultation to decide best options for either your current working wardrobe or some undecided recent purchases, then book in with me from £30 for an online consultation. Alternatively, if you are looking at an investment piece – perhaps a key Autumn/Winter ladies tote or man bag, again feel free to book a consultation to enable me to identify what will work best for you and your look.

Layers

This is the time of year that layering can come in very handy. It’s vital that you take into account your body shape and proportions, as well as how to use your swatches to get maximum impact from colour blocking.

Make-up

It’s a great opportunity to introduce some new eyeliner, and lipstick, as well as to revisit your foundation. Don’t be tempted to finish the bottle if your base colour has faded from the lack of sunshine. There really is no need for there to be a visible line where your foundation stops and your neck starts.

Coats

There was a time when a coat was a real investment purchase, only getting a new one every few years or so. Now, they’re everywhere and in every colour. Given that you’ll probably be seen most in your coat over the coming months, make sure it says what you want it to say in terms of colour, style, shape, and length, etc. If you do default to black, stop by the scarf display to get some colour.
