Wedding season is well underway and I’ve seen a spike in requests for last minute help pre event to ensure clients look their best in the photos. Let’s face it, wedding photos have a long shelf life so it’s worth a little more focus than usual even if you don’t normally worry too much about dressing up!
Here are my top tips and if you feel that a personal consultation would give you an impact and lasting impression to be proud of, give me a call – for a few hours of your time and a small budget we can have you picture perfect.
Colour Confidence:
You just knew I’d start here didn’t you? My first tip is to start with a colour that really works for you (i.e. one from your palette).
Go for a shade that really makes you feel fabulous – after all, when you feel great, you look great. Now is not the time to experiment with new combinations (unless you’ve had some expert guidance of course!). Opt for a shade you have worn and loved previously. Beware! Don’t opt for white or ivory (too bridal), avoid black (even if it is in your colour palette, it is a little morbid for such a joyous occasion), and don’t go TOO bright (Clears and Dramatics, I’m talking to you!).
Colour applies to your make-up too. Make sure you wear colours which flatter your undertone, eye colour and personality! Beware of following the ‘trends’. Thick, dark eyebrows and heavy contouring might not look so good in the photos in a couple of years……. More and more men are also sporting make-up so learning how to get this right takes time and expertise, which I am also qualified to help with.
Necklines count:
Necklines that flatter your neck length, face shape and body shape and proportions can make a real difference. The majority of wedding day photos are waist up, so sporting a neckline that flatters and enhances can be a real winner.
Accessories top it off:
Subtle or bold can complete a groomed look which is framed in a photo. It’s not all about the shoes! Think about hats, earnings, necklace, tie and/or scarf. Does the necklace or scarf compliment or your neckline? A last minute addition can significantly enhance or damage the overall look.
Planning ahead is always worth it so you can enjoy getting ready, particularly for those with young kids to juggle on the day. Similarly, if you have a teenager hoping to make an impression at their first big event I am trained to help make the planning as special as the occasion.
If you would like to book a short consultation to ensure your outfit for a special occasion is picture perfect, just give me a call. I keep some flexible last minute availability appointments for this very type of enquiry so please just get in touch. My studio is in Edinburgh city centre, so very easy for clients to reach and enjoy time to focus in the right environment. I also provide personal shopping support if required and am trained for styling both male and female clients of all ages.
